is below:
Never allow the orchid
compost to
completely dry out. Always allow the
compost to be semi dry before watering. This is usually every seven to
ten days depending on season.
Familiarizing yourself to the weight of the orchid
pot
before and after watering will help you to determine if your
Phalaenopsis Orchid
needs water.
Ensure water to be used is at room temperature as cold water can lead to orchid bud drop.
Pour water through the orchid compost (avoiding the leaves) , drenching it thoroughly.
Ensure you don't leave water in the orchid leaf axis (crown of the plant) as this will cause rotting.
Allow water to completely drain from the orchid
pot, around 20
minutes, before placing it back in its original position.
Do not overfeed. Use a liquid balanced general plant food at half the
recommended strength on alternate waterings or follow instructions
carefully on a specialist orchid fertilizer.
Some of the problems overwatering may cause are rotting Phalaenopsis orchid roots, wilting plants and orchid leaves that appear crumpled and crinkled.
